What a public law officer does, in plain words
A public law officer is the government’s in-house lawyer for a department. On this notice the officer gives legal opinions, checks draft notifications, rules and regulations for departments of the Union Territory of Ladakh, sits on Departmental Promotion Committees, drafts and vets replies, and writes formally to the Ministry. The same person may also do the work of District Litigation Officer for Leh and Kargil. That is court-side work for the administration, not private practice.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the recruiting body. The job sits in the Law and Justice Department under the Administration of UT of Ladakh. UPSC recommends. The department appoints.
What kind of seat this is
The post is permanent. It is General Central Service, Group-B, Gazetted, Non-Ministerial. Headquarters is the Union Territory of Ladakh. Probation is two years. There is a mandatory induction training of at least two weeks, as prescribed by the competent authority, before probation can be completed. No bond figure is printed.
Who should apply — and who should skip
Apply if you are a domicile of the Union Territory of Ladakh, hold a valid domicile certificate issued by a Tehsildar in the Administration of UT of Ladakh, have a bachelor’s degree in law (professional or integrated) from a university established by law in India, and have two years of actual practice at the Bar. That practice must be certified by the Principal District and Sessions Judge concerned, or the Registrar General of the High Court concerned, or the Supreme Court. The roster on this post is ST-04, so the age line printed is 40 years for ST. You must also meet the citizenship rule: citizen of India, or the other listed categories only with a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.
Domicile follows the Ladakh Civil Services Decentralization and Recruitment — Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure) Rules, 2025, notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs and published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary) on 3 June 2025. Eligible groups printed on the notice are Category A (holding a Ladakh Resident Certificate, or eligible to be issued one) and Category B (children of L.R.C. holders, or of those eligible for an L.R.C.).
Skip if you are not a Ladakh domicile. The notice says recruitment is exclusively for domiciles of the UT. Skip if you only have a law degree and no two years at the Bar. Skip the Delhi Assistant Public Prosecutor row: that last date was 2 October 2026. Skip sugar, medical and editor posts in the same PDF. Skip any page that asks for a “registration fee” outside upsconline.nic.in. The fee on the notice is Rs 25, and women, SC, ST and persons with benchmark disability do not pay it.
