What the Supreme Court Registry actually does

The Registry runs the office of the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi. Junior Court Assistants handle court files, listings and office work. This is a Group-B non-gazetted staff post, not a judge’s post and not a law-clerk seat.

Law students can sit this exam. The printed degree is any bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in India. An LL.B. is not asked for.

What kind of role this Supreme Court junior court assistant 2026 seat is

The Registry is preparing a panel for 250 tentative vacancies. The number can change. The Registry can cancel, restrict, enlarge or alter the process without a fresh notice. Eligibility is reckoned as on 1 September 2026.

Pay is Level 6 of the pay matrix. Initial basic pay is Rs 35,400 plus allowances. Typing and the descriptive paper are in Delhi/NCR. The interview may be online or in Delhi.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you are an Indian citizen, you have a bachelor’s degree, you can use a computer, and you can type 35 words per minute in English. Age on 1 September 2026 must be 18 to 30, unless a printed relaxation applies.

Skip if you cannot type 35 wpm, or you are counting on a job in another government office to raise the age cap. The notice says no age relaxation for staff of other government departments, public sector undertakings or nationalised banks. Departmental candidates of the Supreme Court Registry have no upper age limit. Dependents of freedom fighters get up to 5 years over the age of 30. SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), physically challenged and ex-servicemen get the usual Government of India relaxation.
