What the National Commission for Women does
The National Commission for Women is a statutory body set up under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990. It looks at constitutional and legal safeguards for women, reviews existing laws, and suggests changes. It also examines complaints of deprivation of rights and monitors implementation of laws meant to protect women.
This notice exists because the Commission needs legal professionals to help with advice, litigation notes, and law-reform work on a contract basis.

This is a contractual engagement as Junior Technical Expert (Legal). It starts for one year. Extension or curtailment depends on performance and the Commission’s needs. It is not a permanent government post. There is no claim to regularisation. The work is based in New Delhi.

Job requirements in more detail
The notice lists the day-to-day work clearly. You will put up precedents on matters sent for legal advice. You will also handle notes on litigation and on proposals for new bills or amendments to existing laws.
Other tasks include research, drafting background notes for consultations and seminars, and preparing para-wise comments on court matters. You examine media reports and judgments where the Commission may need to intervene.
You must work under strict deadlines and set measurable targets for yourself. Periodic and annual reports form part of the role. You assist any Expert or Working Group the Commission sets up, including meetings and correspondence.
Maintenance of data and regular update of the Commission’s database is required. Building relationships with government agencies, academia, and legal experts is part of the job. Organising seminars or workshops on women-related issues may also come up.
Willingness to travel and adopt flexible hours is expected. Reviewing safeguards under various women-related laws and suggesting measures for better implementation is another listed duty. Any other work assigned by superiors can also be given.
Terms of the contract
Remuneration is Rs 4.8 lakh per annum. No TA or DA is paid for joining or on completion of the engagement. TA and DA are available for official travel.
Leave is 12 days in a year on a pro-rata basis, plus 7 days medical leave and 2 restricted holidays. Office timing is 9:00 am to 5:30 pm on weekdays. Extended hours or holiday duty may be required, with compensatory holiday later.
There is no government accommodation, house rent allowance, or CGHS facility. Only basic working facilities are provided. No telephone or internet at residence and no subordinate staff are given.
The engagement can be terminated at any time without reason or notice. It can also end for unsatisfactory performance, poor quality of work, failure to achieve milestones, or lack of honesty and integrity. Confidentiality of data and documents is required. Posting official information on social media is restricted.
Why this notice matters for law graduates
Working inside a statutory body that reviews laws and handles complaints gives practical exposure to policy and litigation support. The one-year contract is a chance to build a record of government legal work without committing to a permanent cadre immediately.
Because the notice does not print a vacancy count or age limit, check the original PDF and the NCW site before you apply. The official notice remains the final authority.
