MEA consultant legal 2026 — Eurasia Division, apply by 26 Oct

Ministry of External Affairs

Added on 8 Oct 2026 by AAG Legal

What the notice says

MEA consultant legal 2026 is advertisement No. Q/PF/575/50/2026 dated 5 October 2026. Last date — 26 October 2026, 1730 hours. Apply by email to aopfsec@mea.gov.in or by registered post. Detailed notice — mea.gov.in Consultant (Legal) PDF.

What the Ministry of External Affairs actually does

The Ministry of External Affairs handles India’s relations with other countries. The Eurasia Division deals with countries in that region. This hire is for court and consular files of that division, not for a foreign-posting exam.

The office sits in New Delhi. The notice names Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, Patiala House and Kartavya Bhavan as possible work places.

This is a one-year contract for one Consultant (Legal) in the Eurasia Division. It is not a permanent government job and not a civil-service exam. The contract can be extended if work, performance and both sides agree. Either side can end it with one month’s notice, or one month’s pay instead of notice. Unauthorised absence can end the contract.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you are an Indian national, you have at least a bachelor’s degree in Law, you have 5 years in the legal field, and you are not more than 45 on 26 October 2026. The same 5 years must cover court-case work, international law and international legal affairs, including diplomatic norms and processes. You also need computer use and social-media communication.

Skip if you are still in law college, you have no court-file experience, or you want a permanent cadre post. A retired Government of India servant with a legal background can apply up to age 63 on the last date, but the minimum pay level printed for that route is Under Secretary. Desirable, not compulsory: work in the Legal and Treaties Division, the Ministry of Law and Justice, or as head of a legal team in a central ministry.
