SEBI legal internship November 2026 — apply 1 to 7 October

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)

Added on 5 Oct 2026 by AAG Legal

What the notice says

SEBI legal internship November 2026 is the Legal Department slot that opens on the official SEBI portal from 1 October 2026 to 7 October 2026 for a full-time Mumbai internship starting the first working day of November 2026. Apply only at sebi.gov.in internship portal. Guidelines PDF — SEBI Legal Department internship guidelines.

A legal internship here is not a court clerkship and not a law-firm summer. You sit inside the securities-market regulator and do research, case summaries and writing that the Legal Department actually uses. The page below restates the printed rules. If a coaching site disagrees with the PDF, the PDF wins.

What SEBI actually does

The Securities and Exchange Board of India is the statutory regulator for the securities market in India. It frames and enforces securities law, runs enforcement and settlement work, and appears before the Securities Appellate Tribunal, High Courts and the Special Court. The Legal Department supports that work. An intern is attached to a Division as per internal need. This is government work in Mumbai, not a remote certificate course.

What kind of role this is

Full-time, physical reporting at SEBI offices in Mumbai only. Tenure is not less than four weeks, starting the first working day of the month. Hours printed: 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM on working days. Maximum intake printed: 4 students in a month. No leave except medical emergency with proof. You arrange your own stay, travel and medical insurance. Work you produce belongs to SEBI. You do not call yourself a SEBI employee.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you are in the 4th or final year of a five-year law programme, or the 2nd or final year of a three-year LL.B., at a school recognised by the Bar Council of India and the UGC; you have at least 60% aggregate (or equivalent CGPA) in the previous semester results; you are below 28 years on the date of application; you have not already appeared in the final-semester exam; and you can live in Mumbai for November without missing classes (the cover letter must say there are no ongoing classes in that period).

Skip if you are in an earlier year than the bands above, if you have already written the final-semester exam, if your college will not issue the stamped cover letter in Annexure I format, if you cannot sit in Mumbai full time, or if a third-party page asks you to pay for a “SEBI intern slot”. SEBI does not sell seats. There is no application fee in the guidelines.

Educational qualifications

PostDegree / marksExperience / extras
Legal intern, Mumbai4th/final year of 5-year law, or 2nd/final year of 3-year LL.B.; BCI + UGC recognised school; 60% previous semesterAge below 28. Final-semester exam already written — not eligible. Annexure I cover letter mandatory.

Selection

  1. Apply only on the SEBI online portal between the 1st and 7th of the month before the internship month.
  2. Upload a duly filled, signed and stamped cover letter on the law school letterhead in Annexure I. If the school uses only CGPA, the letter must print SGPA/CGPA, the conversion formula, and the calculated percentage. Wrong format = application not considered.
  3. Selection is on merit using aggregate percentage of previous law semesters. Preference may be given for corporate/securities law exposure, prior internships, publications and moots.
  4. Shortlisted applicants get an email. Accept within two days. Silence withdraws the offer for that month; you may apply again later.

How to prepare (free, official)

Read the printed assignment list: legal research, briefs on legal issues, summaries of ongoing cases, exposure to High Court / SAT / Special Court work. The guidelines also ask the intern to try to publish at least one article on investor protection, market regulation or a comparable foreign development. Publication is a basis for considering stipend. That is not a guarantee of ₹10,000.

How to apply without getting played

  1. Open only the sebi.gov.in portal linked above. Do not email a random Gmail that claims to shortlist SEBI interns.
  2. Get the Annexure I cover letter on college letterhead, signed and stamped, with the exact percentage or CGPA conversion the PDF asks for.
  3. Apply between 1 and 7 October 2026 for November. Applications outside that window are not valid for that month.
  4. If selected, reply to the official email within two days. Arrange Mumbai stay yourself. On joining you sign Annexure II (confidentiality). Bring college photo ID and a government ID.
  5. No other allowance is payable. Absence without medical proof can end the internship and block the certificate.
