What this internship is, in plain words
NITI Aayog is the Union government’s policy think tank in New Delhi. Interns are students placed in a vertical or cell to write notes, pull data and help with briefing papers. It is on-site. It is unpaid. A certificate is issued only if you finish the period that was approved — at least six weeks and not more than six months.
What NITI Aayog actually does
NITI advises the Centre and States on development policy. Law students usually map to legal, governance, social justice or regulatory cells if those seats are open that month. You pick an area of interest on the form. The office decides the desk.
Who should apply — and who should skip
Apply if you are a bonafide student of a recognised university in India or abroad and you meet one of these printed lines:
- Undergraduate: you have completed or appeared in term-end exams of the second year / 4th semester, and you scored not less than 85% or equivalent in Class 12.
- Postgraduate or research: you have completed or appeared in first year / 2nd semester of the PG programme, or you are in research / Ph.D., and you scored not less than 70% or equivalent in graduation.
- The gap between the month your final result was declared and the month you want to intern cannot exceed six months.
Skip if you need a stipend, if you cannot stay in Delhi for six weeks, if Class 12 is below 85% (UG track), if you already applied once this financial year, or if you missed 10 October 23:59 — then wait for 1 November.

Bonafide UG (after 2nd year / 4th semester + ≥85% in Class 12), PG / research (≥70% in graduation), recognised university in India or abroad. Apply only once in a financial year. Original marksheets and college NOC at joining, failing which the offer is cancelled.
