What a legal internship in a government office actually is
A legal internship is a short, supervised stint where a law student does research, note-making and drafting under an office. It is not a job and it is not a guarantee of later hiring. Government internships usually ask for a college NOC or a professor letter, set office hours, and issue a certificate only if attendance and a short paper are completed.
What the Law Commission of India actually does
The Law Commission is a body under the Ministry of Law and Justice. The 23rd Commission was set up to study laws, suggest reforms and write reports the government can use. Interns sit with that research work, not with a courtroom board.
Office printed in the scheme: Lok Nayak Bhavan, B Wing, 2nd Floor, Khan Market, New Delhi 110003, or any later notified address.
What kind of seat this is
Unpaid voluntary internship. Duration is ordinarily four weeks, extendable to a maximum of eight weeks if the supervising officer recommends it and the Chairperson approves. Work is ordinarily in New Delhi. Hybrid or remote work is allowed only if the competent authority says so for that intern. The scheme says the internship does not create a right to employment.
Who should apply — and who should skip
Apply if you have already finished two years of a five-year law course, or one year of a three-year law course, at a recognised university or law school. Post-graduate law students and law scholars are also covered. You can apply only once in a financial year.
Skip if you need a stipend (use DPIIT, FSSAI, CCI or SEBI instead), if you cannot reach Khan Market on working days, if you cannot send a stamped recommendation letter, or if you already used your one application this financial year. Fake-fee warning: the Commission does not collect an application fee on this scheme.

What the work looks like
The scheme lists research on statutes and judgments, work on Commission reports, help with consultation papers, case-law compilation, and a short research paper or digitised presentation at the end. Attendance is expected on government working days. A certificate is issued after evaluation of that paper or presentation and the work done.
