Copyright Office internship 2026 — unpaid, apply 3 months ahead

Copyright Office of India

Added on 7 Oct 2026 by AAG Legal

What the notice says

Copyright Office internship 2026 is the standing internship in the guidelines still hosted by the Copyright Office of India. There is no single closing date on that PDF. You apply at least three months before the month you want. The internship starts on the first working day of that month. Send the form to the Registrar of Copyrights, or email copyright@nic.in or vpsrivastav.edu@nic.in. Read the guidelines PDF on copyright.gov.in before you post anything.

The Copyright Office keeps the register of copyrights and handles registration of books, songs, films, software and other works. It sits under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. A Class 12 student can think of it as the government desk that records who claims a creative work, not as a court that decides every fight.

The office is at 4th Floor, Jeevan Deep Building, Parliament Street, New Delhi 110001. The internship is inside that office. It is not remote.

This is a full-time unpaid internship. The guidelines say it is normally one month and can be extended up to three months. It begins on the first working day of the month you are taken for. You follow Government of India office hours. If you are absent in working hours, the period can be extended. If your work is not satisfactory, or you are absent without the guide’s say-so, the internship can be stopped.

The PDF says this is neither a job nor an assurance of a job in the Government of India. A certificate is issued only after you finish successfully. No honorarium is paid.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you are an Indian national, you study at a recognised college, and you already have some exposure to intellectual property, especially copyright. The years printed are: second or third year of a three-year LL.B. after graduation; fourth or final year of a five-year integrated law course; or first year or final year of LL.M.

Skip if you already have a job offer in hand. The guidelines bar students with a placement. Skip if you are in the first year of a five-year course, or the first year of a three-year LL.B. Skip if you cannot sit in New Delhi for the full month. Skip any WhatsApp message that asks for a fee to “arrange” this seat. The office does not print an application fee.

Available positions

Eligibility criteria
Indian national only. Student of a recognised institution with exposure to intellectual property rights, particularly copyright law. Students who already have a placement are not eligible. Courses printed: second and third year of the three-year Bachelor’s degree in Law; fourth and final year of the integrated five-year course in Law; LL.M. first year or final year. A guide is assigned. You present a paper or report on copyright issues at the end, submit a work report, and make a presentation. First day has a short induction on the copyright statute. The PDF prints “Copyright Act, 2002” on that induction line. The Act in force is the Copyright Act, 1957. Read the statute, not the year typed in that one line.

No category-wise vacancy split is printed on this notice.

Total slots — 3 a year, not exceeding 5.

Seat Degree / marks Experience / extras
Copyright Office intern 2nd or 3rd year of 3-year LL.B.; or 4th or final year of 5-year law; or LL.M. 1st year or final year. Exposure to IPR, especially copyright. Indian national. Selection

  1. Only the Annexure form is accepted. Any other format is not entertained.

  3. The college must certify and recommend you. Forms without that recommendation are not entertained.
  4. Add a synopsis of not more than the printed length: about 1000 words on a copyright topic, with introduction, objectives, method and bibliography.
  5. Name the month and year. Apply three months ahead.
  6. Before joining you sign two lines: you do not have a job placement, and you will keep Copyright Office information secret.
  7. The study stays the intellectual property of the Copyright Office. You cannot use it without prior approval.
  8. The Registrar of Copyrights can relax the requirements. That is printed. It is not a promise that your form will be relaxed.

  3. Get the college certification signed, named, designated and sealed.
  4. Write a 1000-word synopsis. Keep a copy.
  5. Post it to the Registrar of Copyrights, Copyright Office, 4th Floor, Jeevan Deep Building, Parliament Street, New Delhi 110001. Write on the envelope: Application for Internship for Month/Year.
